Tobacco users are separately given counselling in a tobacco cessation clinic by the under graduate students as a part of training and take detailed tobacco case history using predesigned DCI prescribed tobacco proforma and also screens for precancerous lesions. Various charts and health education models are displayed in TCC to educate the patients. A detailed case history is taken. All patients receive an intensive interventional counselling followed by advice to re-visit the clinic on a regular basis. Our aim is to create awareness among general public about the negative effects of tobacco through awareness programs, exhibitions and other activities targeting the entire population with special emphasis on young users and other economically underprivileged people. Our programs and services extend to the surrounding tribal areas.
The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a public service program conducted by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports of the Government of India. Popularly known as NSS, the scheme was launched in Gandhiji's Centenary year in 1969. NSS has been in this university since last 3 years. NSS helps students to grow individually and as a group. The NSS is under the dept of Public health dentistry. Dr. Prashant Viragi is the present programme officer of NSS. Various activities like cleanliness drive, tree plantation, rallies and many others are conducted under the NSS unit of RDC.
The dept of Public Health Dentistry, RDC has begun a family adoption programme from 2019-2020 batch. The aim of this programme is to improve the understanding of rural living among UG students and to improve the quality of life of rural population. Here the first year BDS students adopt 5 families each during their entire course. The students are given the task to educate the family in relation to health, environment and others esp. oral health.
